Bay Area Bike ShareOne month before Bay Area Bike Share went live, I created special set of black member keys to drive buzz and generate excitement for the new system. (Regular keys would be blue.)
These keys would be given to early-adopter “Founding Members” who signed up before a single station was installed in San Francisco.
And it worked. We sold out of Founding Memberships in under 24 hours and earned over 100 media hits about the special membership type.
Best of all, the black key became a badge of honor on one’s keychain. Members would often flash the key at events to show they were “one of the first.”
