Opened in 1927, Hospital Moinhos de Vento is one of the most highly regarded health institutions in Brazil. Certified by the Joint Commission International (JCI) since 2002 and has an affiliation agreement with Johns Hopkins Medicine International.

THE BRIEFING

The new Oncology Center Lydia Wong Ling, Hospital Moinhos de Vento, was to be inaugurated but the projected space still did not match the quality and technology of the equipment that was being acquired for the treatments. The Smile Company has been called upon to translate this technology and innovation into the environment without losing the warmth that the patient’s experience requires.

THE SOLUTION

We tried to transpose a technological setting to the new facility, but not losing the necessary warmth to patients and families who would live this environment. Mapped projection on plaster tiles was used as an instrument of distraction at certain points in the waiting rooms, where one could be surprised by a plantation of sunflowers, a butterfly landing, a fish aquarium or even the slow rise of a tree and its swing with the wind.

MY ROLE

Me, together with a designer and another architect had the same role of conception, detailing, production and installation management.
